Join us for an unforgettable journey through time
as we learn the stories behind the myths, unravel the mysteries,
and experience the magic of the Divine Feminine in Ancient Greece.
For two amazing weeks we will explore sacred sites, temples and
caves that carry energies and teachings of the Goddesses. Through
ritual, dancing and feasting we will honor the living breathing
Gaea and make a deeper connection with her rhythms of birth, life,
death, and rebirth that are visible in everything. Come connect
with your inner goddess as you get acquainted with the Goddesses
of Greece.
Greece is the epitome of civilization, Gaea’s birthplace
and center of the world according to Greek Mythology! Time has
blurred the lines between myth and reality as often happens with
cultures as ancient as this one. We will go back in time 3,000
years when the peaceful Matriarchy ruled ancient Greece. However,
at this time the uprise of the patriarchal society slowly changed
the view of the world from goddess to gods, from herstory
into history. Gaea was once ‘mother of all,”her
identity was slowly changed to ‘Rhea, mother of Zeus’,
and then renamed to Eiliuthia, a goddess now only responsible
for labor and childbirth (later demoted further to the role of
Zeus’ jealous wife, Hera).
Our two week journey begins in Athens, the home of the Goddess
Athena, protector of the city named after her. With plenty of
time for Goddess shopping along the colorful café and tree-lined
pedestrian streets of Plaka, we will adjust to the time and culture
difference gently. We then begin our adventures over both land
and sea, seeking the Divine Feminine deep within Mother Earth's’
caves, sifting through the remains of her Goddess temples and,
through ceremony and ritual, strive to awaken these energies in
us and around her natural sacred sites.
Our land adventures continue with a pilgrimage to the ancient
Acropolis that houses the great temple of the Goddess Athena.
Our inner exploration of our personal relationship to the Divine
Feminine begins here as we with connect with Athena’s energies
of wisdom, fairness… and battle. Is there a part of you,
who, like the motherless Athena, identifies more with the patriarchy
than with maternal bonds?
Gather with us around the mythical cave entrance to Hades as we
begin to unravel the Eleusinian Mysteries. Here we learn of secret
societies who annually reenact the story of death and rebirth
of the Goddesses Demeter and her daughter Persephone.
Our mainland adventures will take us through the varied beautiful
wild terrain of Greece as we travel north to ancient Delphi, the
birthplace of Gaea. Do you have any questions for the Oracles?
Feel the fresh salty sea spray of the Mediterranean on your face
as we voyage over her great turquoise waters by ferry to the nearby
island of Aigina and visit the temple of the Goddess Aphaea. Her
temple is still the site of modern-day Goddess rituals and celebrations
at key times throughout the year, celebrating agriculture and
fertility of our Mother Earth.
Our sea voyages continue with a visit to the southern fertile
island of Crete. Here, depending on the weather, you will have
time to swim in the magical crystal clear Thalassa (sea) of the
Mediterranean and be sure to keep your eyes open for dolphins
and sea goddesses, both a common sight here. We will explore the
Goddess temple of Knossos, a massive compound dedicated to the
worship of the Goddess, while a professional guide explains what
could have been the daily activities of a Priestess of the Goddess.
See the ancient figurines found at these sights, of the Snake
Goddess and the “goddess pose”. Shop for replicas
and other altar pieces as we exit the palace. Breathe your energy
into the Mother Earth as we hike down into numerous caves. We
will also visit the sacred church of the Mother Panagia Kera which
houses a miracle icon, still active today! We will visit a typical
village in the mountains and feast on local Cretan food as we
enjoy a night of local music and dancing by the sea.
We finish our journey with a visit to the church of St Helen.
St Helen, a recorded Priestess of Avalon, vowed to never let the
people forget the Goddess by building a temple in her name of
Mary. This church was completed in her honor on the island of
Paros by her son, King Constantine. Although the original chapel
has been built over by a modern day church, if if we look closely
at the carvings we can find clues in the symbolism and draw our
own conclusions as to how the worship of the Divine Feminine and
the Goddess were perhaps driven into exile. Like Helen, perhaps
as we leave we too can renew our own connection to the Divine
Feminine within us.
One last night in Athens gives us a chance to do any last minute
souvenir shopping, feast on local Greek cuisine and perhaps celebrate
with one more greek dance. Here we can raise our glasses and say
“Gia mas” “to our health" |
